Our ‘ways to well-being’ framework
The group is based around the following ‘ways to well-being’ framework:*
WAYS TO WELL-BEING
- Connect with others
- Give
- Take Notice and be present
- Keep Learning
- Be Active
- Spend time in nature
*This framework is based upon research from a number of different sources, including the World Health Organisation ‘5 ways to well-being’ project and the Harvard Study of Adult Development, the most extensive study of human happiness ever conducted.
Key well-being skills
In addition to the session topics, the group will teach participants key well-being skills, which we will refer to as the SIX HUMAN SUPERPOWERS! These skills will be practised regularly throughout the programme through a variety of engaging experiential and creative exercises.
The six human superpowers are skills to boost well-being for life! They are:
SPOTLIGHTING SKILLS
Choosing to pay attention to positive, helpful things (e.g. things that bring us joy and things that we are grateful for).
MINDFULNESS SKILLS
Learning to pay attention to the present moment and really take it in.
NOTICING SKILLS
Learning to notice our own thoughts and feelings as they happen.
BREATH SKILLS
Learn to use our breath to calm and soothe ourselves.
IMAGERY SKILLS
Learning to use our amazing imagination to help ourselves.
SELF-TALK SKILLS
Learning to talk to ourselves in helpful, supportive ways.
